How to speed up a video is another way of looking at the saying that Time Is Money. You’ve read this and ultimately know this to be true.
When facing death, a man or woman will choose more time over any other option. You can offer them more riches. You can offer them more ‘stuff’. But, ultimately all will be declined if they could have more time.
It’s your most precious asset. It’s mine, and I don’t like to waste it.
Watching Videos Saturday Morning
Why am I watching videos Saturday morning? Because it’s a quiet time for me to study and learn. I am a voracious learner. I study marketing, money, economics, geopolitics, fitness and anything else that strikes my curiosity.
I have gigabytes of PDF’s in the form of Special Reports, Lessons, Books and other training materials. I’ve taken various speed-reading courses over the years
I Have Gigabytes of Videos
Just like the PDF’s, I have many gigabytes of videos on my computer, and more on my external hard drive. Unlike some who buy, download and forget, I actually take the time and go through my materials, make notes, action items and follow through… on most. Let’s face it, some aren’t worth the virtual paper they’re printed on.
That Brings Me Back to Time
I just watched a 25 minute video in 17 minutes. No, I didn’t skip parts because that leaves me wondering what I missed. Instead, I simply sped up the video at 1.5 times the normal speed. And on some videos I even speed up the video to 1.5 or 2.0 times speed depending on how slow their speaking.
To do this, I use a tool called MySpeed to speed up my videos. What I like about it is that is lets me change the playback speed of Flash video without any loss of audio quality.
Video Accelerator
It’s like speed-reading for video!
Whether you have a PC or Mac, you can speed up the Flash video you’re watching. Or, you can slow down the video to keep it running while you take notes.
This increases learning through greater retention. Isn’t this why you’re watching the video in the first place?
I especially like speeding up videos that friends send me, so I can quickly review, comment and move on to the next thing.
If you’re an information junkie like me, this is perfect for you. If you have tons of untapped information on your computer, I’d suggest making a list of it all. Use a spreadsheet like Microsoft Excel or iWork Numbers.
Then, prioritize your list, print it out, put it by your computer, then start working your way down the list. Using the benefits of the speedreading skills you developed and the video accelerating tool MySpeed, you’ll get through your list in record time.
How Does It Work
Whenever Flash video is detected by your browser (PC or Mac), the MySpeed slider bar appears and lets students change the playback rate from 5 times faster to 3 times slower, with no chipmunk sound. It’s perfect for online courses, training videos, seminars and YouTube.
Here’s an example (starts at 2′ 05″ in):

That is not the 25 minute video I was “learning” – just used it as an example
I am an affiliate for these products. I only recommend products I use or fully endorse, as should you. And with anything, don’t take just my word for it, do your own due diligence. It’s a good habit to develop.
Two Versions
MySpeed has a Standard and Premier version. The MySpeed Premier version (what I’m using) lets you speed up or slow down videos on your computer (PC or Mac) and not just ones on the web.
This is crucial if you have a lot of videos from home study programs and other sources. Plus, even if you’re travelling, at a coffee shop or just ‘unplugged’ you can still use the video accelerator /decelerator option.
Premier also works with all those video files on my computer that I mentioned earlier. The standard version only works for online videos. This is the best way to speed up your video and save time whether online or off.
