This has got to be the simplest marketing plan I have ever created. It came to me a number of years back when I was researching marketing and client-getting strategies and tactics.
I studied, read dozens of books, asked ‘experts’ and kept notes of my trials and errors.
I think I’ve gotten the art and science of getting new clients down to a single strategy. I’ll share it with you after I answer a few other questions.
Question: I have a network marketing business and work for an insurance company, how can I share both with people I meet?
Answer: Short answer, don’t. Longer answer. Stay clear and focused and lead with a single business, product, value proposition. Don’t confuse the people you meet, help them.
You help them by listening to them, learning who they are and what challenges they’re facing, opportunities they have or unique situations in their life.
Once you understand this, you can pull out a specific solution to suit that person’s needs.
If you’re introducing yourself, assess the crowd and make the best guess you can about which product, service or business you should share. Keep it simple and focused. As you develop a relationship with them, you can share additional services.
Question: Where do I find speaking engagements?
Answer: They are all around you. There are hundreds of clubs, associations, groups and other miscellaneous meetings in your area looking for breakfast, lunch and dinner speakers. Call them and let them know how you can help their members.
Join toastmasters, the NSA (National Speakers Association, not the secretive government agency) and practice speaking as much as you can.
Start hosting teleclasses and webinars and letting everyone you know about them.
Question: I don’t have a marketing plan, my website is old and I have no brochures. Where do I start with marketing my business and getting new clients… help!
Answer: In my early frustrations of trying to find new clients, I read the books, bought home study programs and studied the masters.
There was so much advice and so many people telling me so many things, I felt so overwhelmed. I didn’t know where to start. Sound familiar?
So, in those early days, I boiled down all the advice and simplified my marketing plan into a single daily step. This has been so effective that I continue to follow this golden rule to this day. What is it?
Everyday, talk to someone new about what you do. (an easy rhyme)
That’s it? Yes, sort of.
Think about it. How often do you really talk to someone new about what you do?
I’m talking about every single day, make it imperative to deliberately contact someone new about what you do. You may randomly bump into them, that’s okay.
You may call or email them for coffee or lunch. You may contact someone you met last week. It doesn’t matter, just make a habit of reaching out everyday to share with someone what you do.
And here’s a way to make this marketing plan even more powerful – serve someone new every single day.
By serving someone new every day, you’re sharing what you do and being of service. And let’s face it, you feel better when you’re being of service.
With that simple habit, you can process their feedback, try new messages, taglines, techniques and processes. You can ask for referrals, feedback or for them to sign on with you, or just walk away if not ready.
But I think you’ll find the more you do this, the more ‘ready’ you’ll feel and the more clients you’ll get.
It’s a simple marketing plan, and something you can do today. So, go contact someone right now and get serving!
